Bitten Recap 'Fine Temporum'

Season 2 Episode 10

I am tired. I watched this episode whilst tired. I am now writing this recap even more tired. It is 20 minutes past 10 in the evening, the end of a long day. Usually, at around this time, I still have plenty of energy to write. But real world cares have a way of draining an already exhausted soul. So, though my grade for this finale is a B, it could be higher, or lower, upon rewatch, when hopefully I will not be tired anymore.

The final showdown happened at the catacombs, where Ruth was performing the spell to kill Aleister. Savannah had already turned zombie-esque under Aleister's spell. As a member of the coven, Savannah was able to open the door leading to the catacombs. There, Ruth risked her life to get Aleister's blood and hopefully end the Undoing he began. Aleister did not have power in the catacombs. However, when he managed to tear Ruth's talisman off her, neither did she.

Ruth tried to talk Aleister out of his murderous plans, but Clara was there, countering her words. Elena arrived and lost a fight with Aleister, but before she bled out, with Ruth already unconscious, Elena managed to remove the creature from inside Savannah, the one he had been using to control her. For a moment there, I thought Elena was going to do what Paige said she might have to, and kill Savannah.

Savannah snapped out of her trance, but she still could not do magic since Aleister had her talisman. Aleister and Clara dragged her deeper into the catacombs, where they would wait for dawn. Paige joined her mother, already weak because of the Undoing. When Clay arrived and saw Elena die, he decided to change to kill Aleister. With Elena dead, he had no more reason to cling to being human.

Ruth, however, decided to sacrifice her life to bring Elena back from the dead, because Elena is the lead of this show. It was heartbreaking how Paige kept sobbing that she was not ready, as she watched her mother commit suicide. Deeper within the catacombs, Clay as a wolf wounded Aleister; the distraction was enough for Savannah to steal her talisman back. When Aleister realised he could use magic again, Clara figured that meant the head of the coven was dead, and the Undoing was upon them.

Elena arrived in time to help Savannah fight Aleister. Savannah was a young witch who did not have enough skill to defeat Aleister in a duel, but when she provided ample distraction, Elena grabbed Aleister's talisman, then shoved his face in water, drowning him, as Clara thought of drowning him when he was a baby. There was a bit of tension on whether Elena killed Aleister in time to stop the Undoing, or not, but then Paige showed up fine, and Clay slowly changed back to his human form.

Jeremy and Nick spent much of this episode fighting guards at the building who were under Aleister's mind control. It was fine, and I liked that the show showed the werewolves when they were not at their fighting best, because the Undoing was weakening them. Nick fought the change hard, because he wanted the love that Elena and Clay had. He would have to find it in someone else other than Paige, though. With Ruth gone, Paige was in line to be the next head of the coven. That meant she could have no romantic future with Nick.

The second season ended with another premonition from Savannah -- a bloodied Elena amidst a burning Stonehaven.

Strays

■ Is Zachary Cain dead again? He took several bullet wounds when he rushed one of the armed security guards. I do not know why he and Clay did not just wait for the guard to run out of bullets. After all, the dude just kept firing his weapon. Anyway, he was shown injured but not dead so hopefully he will be back next season.

■ When Jeremy told the group Logan was dead, Nick was particularly affected by it.
