Season 2 Episode 3
The first time I watched this episode weeks ago, I thought it was a C, at best. I have tried to remain optimistic about the second season, but the introduction of the witches has not coincided with Bitten's best work. When I watched the episode a second time, for this recap, the flaws that I saw the first time were still there, but I did not mind them as much. This is something I have noticed about myself, that I tend to view TV shows with a kinder eye upon rewatch.
After the witches took Malcolm to lure the mysterious Aleister and get young Savannah back, Jeremy had no choice but to propose that they work together. Jeremy and his pack needed Malcolm back; they had promised his head to the Council. Ruth instructed Savannah to tell Aleister about the barn where the witches and the werewolves would be waiting, to present it as a vision. Aleister arrived alone, and was clearly so powerful that he went on ignoring the witches Ruth, Paige and Bridget as he tried to figure out which one of them had placed a spell on Malcolm.

After Aleister gravely wounded Bridget and freed Malcolm from her spell, the werewolves came out from their hiding places. Malcolm's followers, too, arrived in their trucks, and a fight ensued. Based on the conversation between Ruth and Aleister, the witches had no idea who he was or what they had done to piss him off.
Elena went after Malcolm, who tried to run away. Their fight scene was brutal, and it made me worry a little about Laura Vandervoort's stunt double. Malcolm was clearly physically superior to Elena, but Elena was smarter. She allowed Malcolm to think that he was strangling her. Just as he was intent on killing her, Elena wolfed out her claws and jabbed them on the side of Malcolm's neck. There ended Malcolm, who caused so much trouble in the first season.

When Aleister saw that Elena killed Malcolm, his interest immediately transferred to her, as the strongest werewolf alive. Aleister based his belief that Malcolm was the strongest werewolf on the testimony of a werewolf he captured. Now, he believed that Elena was the strongest because he saw her kill Malcolm. How do you define 'strong', Aleister? Are you referring to physical strength or tenacity as a character? Don't you think it was more than a little moronic to take the word of one werewolf on who the strongest werewolf was? Yes, I am not happy about Aleister as the main villain of this season. Hopefully, he will improve in the next episodes.
Bridget died, which did not have as much impact as it could have since we only met here on this episode, and Elena was now a prisoner of Aleister. At least Rachel was alive. Logan was so happy to receive that confirmation. When Aleister's followers loaded up the bodies of their comrades to their trucks, Logan hid amongst the bodies. He was coming for Rachel. Here's hoping Elena would not stay chained for long, and would help Logan break Rachel out of there.

■ Aleister placed something inside Savannah that allowed him to control her when he said the words, "I am the lock." She would reply, "I am the key."
■ One of Aleister's followers lived to be questioned by Clay. Ruth said she could not break through whatever spell Aleister put on her. The unnamed woman killed herself.
■ Nick took photographs of the dead Malcolm, presumably to send to the Council.
■ Rodrigo's pack went to Stonehaven looking for him. Clay and Elena managed to hide his body and clean up the blood just in time.
■ Thank you, Bitten, for the close up on the act of severing fingers. <sarcasm>
■ There was a bit of a thaw between Nick and Paige.
