Bitten Recap 'Scavenger's Daughter'

Season 2 Episode 9

Part of me cannot quite believe how much I am enjoying Bitten now, given that I disliked the first few episodes of the second season. But here we are, the werewolf and witch parts of the story have beautifully melded, and Bitten is headed to the second season finale strong. Also, Zachary Cain is alive! Bitten brought back a werewolf who started as a brute but who later evolved into one of the show's most fascinating characters. I am not even mad that I was fooled into thinking Clay killed him in the eighth episode. I am just happy that he is back.

When the werewolf powers started becoming erratic, Ruth realised that the Undoing was affecting them as well. Werewolves came into existence because of a curse. If the witches were wiped out, the curse would be lifted. Werewolves in human form would remain human whilst werewolves in wolf form would remain wolves. Ruth said this would happen by sunrise, if Aleister was not stopped.

When she was 17 years old, Ruth tried to have baby Aleister killed. Now, once more, for the survival of witches, and werewolves too, Ruth was trying to kill Aleister. Though weakened, Aleister felt Ruth's magic. It was not enough, however. Ruth hurried over to Boston, to the Delphi Building. Underneath were catacombs were she could draw from the power of former coven leaders.

Aleister went to Stonehaven to find his mother, but Ruth had already left. Jeremy was no match to his magic. In a spot of epic bad timing, Logan and Rachel had only just arrived because Rachel was in severe pain. The Undoing was affecting the baby in her womb as well. Logan changed into a wolf and attacked Aleister. The second time he lunged, Aleister was ready. Logan was gravely wounded, and Aleister left.

Logan died, or at least, appeared to die. I am going to be more careful about this because of the whole Zachary Cain back to life thing. Before he died, Logan told Rachel to tell their son everything. Rachel tearfully apologised to Logan. Though the two of them escaped Aleister's compound together, they did not really remain together. Rachel even told Logan that she had the baby aborted. It was only when Rachel started experiencing pain that she called Logan and told him the truth. I refuse to accept this is the end for these two.

Elena, Clay, Nick and Paige were not at Stonehaven during the attack because they were at Clara's house. When Aleister started feeling the effects of Ruth's spell, he and Clara used Savannah to contact Ruth. Jeremy joined in the communication so he could look at where Savannah was being held. He figured that they were at a basement. The werewolves and Paige found the basement easily enough, but there was no one there. Paige, however, was able to figure out what Clara's plan was.

Before Aleister used the possession magic on Clay, he first practised on a young woman, who switched with Clara. He videotaped the process. After the Undoing, Aleister would survive because he was the one who cast the spell, Clara would live because she was no longer a witch, and Savannah would not be affected because she was the conduit. Paige figured out that Clara meant to take possession of Savannah's body after the Undoing. This would mean that Clara would also have Savannah's powers. Only Aleister and Clara as Savannah would remain as witches.

I have a bit of a nitpick about this. The werewolves were said to be losing their powers because the witches were dying out. The curse would be lifted when all the witches were gone. Yet not all the witches would be gone, even after the Undoing. Aleister would remain; he was a witch. Savannah would remain, as well; she was also a witch. The bloodlines of the witches would remain. The werewolf curse need not be broken, if the breaking was tied to the total elimination of witch blood.

I am moving on from my nitpick. After Logan died, Jeremy instructed Elena to head to Boston with the others to protect Ruth. It was a good call. Aleister, Clara, and Savannah were already at the building, and Ruth was all alone, performing her magic.

■ When Paige accidentally knocked out a table, the door to the basement sealed, trapping her and Nick inside just as she was weakening terribly. Nick managed to put the items back together and the door opened.

■ Aleister mind controlled a cop. He went to Clara's house and fought Clay. I thought I heard his neck break.

■ This is how Zachary re-entered the scene. Logan was upset after Rachel told him she had the baby aborted. He ended up getting into a decidedly one sided fight with a douche who was roughing up a woman. A man approached him and asked him if he was interested in fighting in a kind of fight club, not for money, as Logan said he did not need it, but to get some release. Logan's opponent was Zachary Cain.

■ During the fight, Zachary began to change; this was part of the Undoing and was happening to werewolves all over. After the fight, Logan went to Zachary's place and warned him about the Undoing. Logan also told Zachary that he could join the Pack to help fight against the Undoing. Logan saw that Zachary had kept his girlfriend Amber on life support. Amber was already brain dead. She was stuck at mid change. Later, Zachary tearfully turned off life support. He then turned up at Stonehaven and offered Jeremy his help.

■ Since Logan mentioned Nick, it seemed that the two of them had been in contact after Logan and Rachel's escape from Aleister's compound.

■ When they arrived at Stonehaven. Logan tried to comfort Rachel, who was in severe pain, by saying that the curse was lifting and that he would no longer need to change. Jeremy knew then that Logan had made his choice.

■ Zachary and Logan's fight was well choreographed.

■ So, Nick is in love with Paige?
