Bitten Recap 'Prisoner'

Image from Bitten, streamed via Netflix
Season 1 Episode 8

Did Zachary love his human girlfriend Amber more than Clay loved Elena? Elena certainly seemed to think so. She could appreciate Zachary’s mode of loving, steadfastly refusing to bite Amber, rather than Clay’s. I am not certain whether who was right or not mattered because at this point, I feel that Elena was just fighting Clay for the sake of fighting. She needed to find ways to stay mad at him to stop herself from falling in love, or in lust, with him again.

The titular Prisoner here was Zachary, and it was through his conversations with Clay that we learnt more not just about his life but the life of mutts under the rule of the Pack. Zachary came from a werewolf bloodline, though neither he nor his father were ever part of the Pack. He joined with Daniel Santos after Amber found out he was a werewolf. Under Pack law, Amber would have been hunted down and killed. It was to keep Amber safe that Zachary joined the rebellion against the Danvers Pack.

Nick brought in his cousin Jorge to help him disappear his father, the way Antonio disappeared other werewolves who lost their lives. Jorge wanted to talk to Jeremy, but Nick calmly reminded him that he was not inner circle. Stonehaven was a bastion of exclusivity for werewolves. The werewolf social distance between the Stonehaven crew and someone like Zachary Cain was becoming clear.

Clay tried to find common ground with Zachary in an effort to get him to confess the whereabouts of the other mutts. To treat Jeremy, they first needed to know which toxin the serial killer LeBlanc used to coat his knife. Clay even dangled the possibility of Zachary joining the Pack. Zachary killed Pete, however; that could not be forgiven. Clay hurt Zachary before he killed him.

The way Elena managed to extract information from LeBlanc on the toxin he used on Jeremy, with Marsten just sitting there across the table, was too easy. It was almost as though Marsten did not truly want Jeremy to die, or was perhaps unwilling to hurt Elena. Marten’s beef with Stonehaven was the fact that he had asked for territory many times, and was denied. I hope there would be more to Marsten’s lack of action at the diner because otherwise, that would be a clumsy bit of writing.

In the end, Jeremy survived, Zachary was killed, and Nick refused to take his eye off the mutt ball, even when Jeremy ordered him to check on Logan. Zachary did provide one useful information before he died. Daniel Santos hired Jimmy Koenig, a former Pack enforcer. No peace was to be had up at Stonehaven.

Strays

■ Philip recognised Elena’s necklace on the wolf video. Mr. Perfect Boyfriend was starting to have doubts about Elena. Did Philip suspect Elena of sleeping with Logan?

■ I do not know why that scene between Nick and Amanda was included, unless Amanda becomes important later?

■ Clay went to the police station to get the Sheriff away from Stonehaven.
