Season 1 Episode 10
There was much simmering anger in this episode, and most of them from a human. Most understanding boyfriend ever Philip suspected based on the photograph he saw at Logan’s place that Elena had a relationship with her ‘cousin’ Clay. Meeting him pretty much confirmed his suspicion. Clay was sent by Jeremy to Toronto to protect Elena. Philip, being Philip, invited Clay to stay with him and Elena at their apartment. Clay, being Clay, accepted.
When Victor Olson showed his rabbit face at Elena’s show, Philip finally let some of his aggression off, and pummelled the perv’s face. Philip thought that was proof he could protect Elena. Oh Philip. At least he now knew that Elena has been lying to him this whole time. To Elena’s credit, she ceased the fiction of cousin Danielle and the accident, and admitted to Philip that her family in New York including Clay was not her family by blood.
This is what we know so far of the plan involving Elena. A man who called himself James Williams pretended to be a client of Philip’s ad agency, and gave him a video of Elena and Logan as wolves. James Williams also sponsored Elena’s first show as an artist, and specified the date and time. It was, deduced by Clay, so he could drop Victor Olson on her. I do not know what the intent was with regard to sending the video of wolf Elena to Philip (probably to make her boyfriend begin to ask questions that could lead to him at least getting uncomfortably close to her werewolf life) but sponsoring Elena’s show was to mess with Elena’s head. Wasn’t this plan needlessly expensive, and not really set to accomplish much?
When Daniel Santos was trying to rein Victor Olson in, he said he, Victor was promised revenge, but that he was not to touch Elena. Victor’s sentence was lengthened by five years based on young Elena’s testimony. After all the money James Williams spent on Elena’s show, was the revenge supposed to be scaring Elena for a few minutes? Yes, her first show as an artist was ruined but Victor, Daniel Santos, whoever James Williams was, they must have known that Elena was a survivor. The diabolical plan here just seemed so small.
Could they have anticipated that Jeremy would send Clay to Toronto to protect Elena? It was Clay’s presence that was more devastating to Elena than James Williams’s plan. Philip saw their body language and figured out they had not just a history but a lingering lust for each other. Philip was Elena’s happy place, the well muscled repository of hope for a better future. Now, Philip was angry with her.
Based on the pictures Jeremy and the Pack saw at the mutts’ former hiding place, Elena was as much a target as Jeremy. There were surveillance photographs of Elena and Logan and the people in their lives. Logan hurriedly told Jeremy that Rachel was pregnant with a boy, then was given leave to return to Toronto to be with her. The complications brought about by a male baby would have to be dealt with another time. Per Pack law, Logan was supposed to steal the baby from Rachel so he could be raised by the Pack. Rachel knows about Stonehaven so I do not know how Logan could hope to hide the child from her. Nick, who was taken away from his own mother, adhered to Pack law, though it was clear he thought of his mother too.
In Descent, things were getting worse for the Pack. The one bright spot was that Joey Stillwell escaped from the mutts. Jeremy was suspicious of his escape, but Nick proved that he told the truth about the old distillery where he was kept prisoner. I would like to spare a thought for Diane, though. That was an awful lot of energy she spent flirting with Clay, who was a brick wall because she was not Elena. Oh Diane. I’ll sit with you in the no carbs section.
