Since Bitten’s earliest days, Elena has always referred to Jeremy’s Pack as her family. Even when she was dating Philip, and relations between her and the Pack, especially Clay, were not great, they remained her family. With the introduction of Sasha Antonov and his children Alexei and Katia, Elena now had what she has not had for most of her life, blood relations… if what Sasha told Elena was true.
The lack of a firm resolution on the truthfulness of Sasha’s claims and the reason why he chose now to reveal himself to Elena were part of the odd imbalance of Our Own Blood. On the one end, it had fight scenes and that rather bloody, gory killing of Eduardo by the Russian alpha, Roman, whilst Jeremy watched. On another end, it moved slowly, with long scenes of Elena not saying anything new, and Clay being patient and loyal. Several times whilst watching this episode, I found myself picking out photographs for a project I am considering working on. I wanted werewolf-centred stories so I was surprised at how little this episode engaged me.
The revelation to the Pack of the betrayal of a new recruit, Bucky, could throw a wrench on the new order Jeremy was determined to establish. Elena had warned against a lack of loyalty if Pack membership was imposed on mutts. Bucky was a personification of her warning, a mutt who aligned himself with Eduardo. Bucky and another mutt died, killed by Elena and Clay. Eduardo was captured alive and interrogated by Jeremy, before he told Roman, who had just arrived from Russia, to kill him.
Roman had forced a witch to give him the location of Sasha Antonov. When the witch said Sasha was with a female werewolf, Roman immediately knew that was Elena. Sasha told Elena that if Roman found out where they were, they would be killed. One of Roman’s assassins had killed Katia and Alexei’s mother in front of them.
I remain hopeful that Bitten’s third and final season will be a good one.
Strays
■ Sasha had a tattoo of Elena’s birth date on his arm.
■ Elena and Clay were now both hiding from Jeremy the fact that there was a human, Katia, who knew about werewolves and who was on Jeremy’s territory.
■ Alexei had yet to have his first turn.
