'I don't have a name', young Cait told the newly crowned Queen Kerra. The Solstice where she gave away her name had been interrupted by the Roman attack. Yet, the eyes of the powerful in Britannia were suddenly drawn to this young girl. She was seen by both Aulus and Divis on their trips to the underworld. Kerra believed the runes written on the back of her neck referred to Cait. The girl with a blind father was hope.
There was a chance for peace for the Cantii, at least temporarily. Kerra released Vitus and tasked him to tell Aulus she wanted to talk at the Citadel. Aulus rode, though Antedia and her army were already on the way as well. Aulus rather sternly directed Antedia to hold their position whilst he spoke to Kerra.
How Aulus intended to deal with Antedia, had the deal he and Kerra negotiated actually pushed through, we were not shown. Aulus agreed to Kerra's conditions --- that she retained control of her army, that the Roman soldiers patrol the borders, that no Cantii would become a Roman slave, that they would only discuss taxation if the agreement held in five years. Kerra asked for time to speak with her Elders, which Aulus also agreed to. When Aulus demanded that Cait be handed to him, however, just as Kerra was helping her and her father escape a rampaging Pwykka controlled Divis, the Queen of the Cantii refused. Kerra thought the runes Veran told her about referred to her. Now she believed they referred to Cait. The young girl's safety superseded peace with Rome.

Throughout all these, Amena watched, desperate to find the demon she had called for using, amongst others, hair she secretly cut off Kerra. When Aulus first arrived at Crugdonon, she went to him, asking if he were her demon, offering to do anything. Spurned, she came across Divis. She thought he came to do Kerra harm and helped him enter the fortress. An unknowable power pulsed through Britannia whilst Amena, now just a general's unloved wife, continued to seek power for herself.
Strays
■ Kerra made Lindon general of all her forces.
■ Lindon heavily implied that Phelan had betrayed Kerra.
■ When Vitus arrived, Brutus escaped the Roman camp and dragged Philo with him.
■ Aulus suddenly became very interested in Cait after he heard that a young girl helped a blind Cantii prisoner escape.
■ It was nice of Kerra to give Cait a wardrobe upgrade.
■ Did Aulus just break up with Veran? What exactly is Veran waiting for Aulus to be ready for?
■ As Aulus rode to Crugdonon, he and his men passed Roman soldiers who had been brutally murdered, some of them torn apart. One of the soldiers was still alive and told the general it was Pwykka who did all that.
